Olivia is a freelance bassist, singer and songwriter.
Born and raised in Hamilton Ontario, Olivia Brown first picked up an electric bass at 17 and has been writing songs ever since. Singing in a style reminiscent of Erykah Badu or Little Dragon, she combines influences as diverse as The Pixies, Billie Holiday, and James Brown into her own original sound. Her songs describe life from her perspective and often explore topics of duality and self-love. Olivia Brown Band features Jake Franiczek on guitar, Ian Aisling on keys, and Justin McHugh on drums. A force to be reckoned with, their creative and captivating performances are sure to leave no audience behind. ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
As a freelance musician, Olivia plays in many styles of music including R&B, alternative rock, blues, jazz, pop, and funk. She is currently a member of several bands besides her own (more information about these collaborations soon!) and available to hire as a session musician, a sub for your band, or to perform standards or cover songs at your event.
A graduate of Mohawk College's music program, Olivia is also a teacher at Long & McQuade Hamilton. You can walk by her studio and see her wearing sunglasses inside, drinking excessive amounts of coffee, and having the time of her life. Olivia has attended The Banff Centre as a musician in residence (Late Fall 2018) and has been nominated twice as an Emerging Artist in the Hamilton Art Awards (2017 & 2018) where she is nominated this year for the Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize (2019).
